We had the honor of designing a sacred landscape that invites parishioners on a contemplative journey through the Mysteries of the Rosary. Created in collaboration with Domus Studio Architecture and the Diocese of Orange, the project was recognized with the 2026 AIA Sacred Space Award, honoring its thoughtful integration of architecture, landscape, and spiritual experience.
The gardens are thoughtfully organized into four distinct spaces, each devoted to one of the Mysteries of the Rosary: Joyful, Luminous, Sorrowful, and Glorious. Each garden is uniquely composed with sculpted walls, intricate paving, and custom artwork, creating a sacred destination for prayer, peace, and encounter through the harmonious integration of faith, art, and nature.
A sinuous pathway gracefully weaves through the gardens, guiding visitors from one sacred space to the next. Our work included the selection and placement of 17 mature olive trees, forming the Marian Gardens and the Garden of Gethsemane Grove adjacent to the Our Lady of La Vang Shrine.
After sunset, carefully composed architectural lighting transforms the gardens, creating a reverent nighttime experience that enriches the spiritual atmosphere. More than a landscape, the gardens provide a place for prayer, contemplation, and quiet reflection.
Building upon our previous work at Christ Cathedral, including the Neutra Arboretum renovation and courtyard enhancements, this award-winning project further strengthens the sacred character and enduring beauty of the Cathedral campus.
