Set amid a beautiful hilltop overlooking the Pacific Ocean in Dana Point, California, St. Edward the Confessor is a 35,000-sq.-ft. worship plaza that presents an experience like no other. With its breathtaking views, social gathering spaces and beautifully crafted architectural designs, St. Edward the Confessor is one of the most alluring developments on the West Coast.
Using the panoramic surroundings to the site’s advantage, Land Concern further emphasized the importance of communion for guests by strategically designing spaces that lead guests toward the social plaza after service. From sweeping radial patterns that encircle the church to tree-lined bosques that open up for smaller groups to gather, everything here is purposely designed for people to rejoice in style. The connection between nature and guests is celebrated with a boardwalk and casual seating area that offers an uninterrupted view of the ocean.
St. Edward the Confessor was designed with sustainability and historic preservation in mind. Initially, opportunities for placing quality water features throughout the site were limited, but with thoughtful planning a solution presented itself along the boardwalk. Land Concern incorporated bio-filtration components into existing planters along the boardwalk seating area. In addition, when Land Concern was faced with needing to relocate existing memorial plaques and shrines, our solution: create a space that not only honored tradition, but also created new opportunities for guests to interact with these treasured pieces. Land Concern created a stunning display wall that leads into the shrine statues, complementing a sweeping ocean view and patio space.
What makes St. Edward the Confessor a true oasis is its offering of top-notch amenities, including a social plaza, green space, pastoral center and state-of-the-art church. The overlook area features a boardwalk with outdoor seating and gathering spaces that open up to unparalleled views of the ocean and stunning surroundings.
