Christ Cathedral

Famed architect Richard Neutra had a definitive and long-lasting impact on Robert Schuller’s innovative, beautiful Southern California landmark, the Crystal Cathedral drive-in church, also known as the Arboretum and the Tower of Hope. These are currently being lovingly rehabilitated and Land Concern has partnered with the Diocese of Orange and LPA architects to continue that vision at the now re-named, Christ Cathedral. Aided by architectural historian Barbara Lamprecht we studied the nuances of Neutra’s original designs and similar works to develop spaces within and around the complex that complement Neutra’s philosophy and intent. Neutra’s emphasis on human well-being and the vital connection to nature is the subject of ceaseless conferences, dissertations and articles; Land Concern understood the importance of his vision and the need to carry his legacy forward in this project.
