As the Lead Landscape Architect, Land Concern has assisted Rancho Mission Viejo in developing highly successful communities such as Rancho Santa Margarita, Las Flores, Ladera Ranch, Sendero and the latest community, Esencia. Continuing their legacy of designing unique recreational amenities, five new amenities for a diverse population are about to be unveiled in Esencia.
Break out the gear and get ready to camp, in the comfort of your backyard! Teaming up with DRC Engineering, Public Restrooms Company, Candela Electrical Engineers, JES Engineering and Soltis Landscape, this amenity provides for the opportunity to camp out and enjoy a night under the stars, with construction well underway, the Campout is sure to be an outdoor adventure for Esencia’s futures residents . Amenities include:
- Restroom, shade structure and BBQs
- 10 permanent tent structures
- Large fire pit
- Casting/RC Boat pond
Time to sit back and unwind, discover a refuge for the Age Qualified residents at The Getaway. Our team at Land Concern, WHA Architects, DRC Engineering, Candela Electrical Engineers, Soltis Landscape and W.E. O’Neill will deliver a private getaway with the following amenities:
- Community room & restrooms
- Outdoor BBQ and bar
- Shaded outdoor dining, seating and pond
- 2 group fire pits

One of the most unique ventures yet included the collaboration of four of Orange County’s premier Landscape Architectural firms in conceptualizing the key amenity for the next phase of Esencia. Under the guidance of Jennifer Taylor and Bill Sadler of Rancho Mission Viejo, and Mike Sweeney, Principal at Land Concern, together facilitated three months of conceptualizing with Brightview Design, SWA and Urban Arena. The Backyard, Garage and Hangout will soon bring a diverse collection of amenities to the final phase Esencia.
As the Lead Landscape Architect, Land Concern was tasked with the final designs, construction documents and overseeing the installation of these amenities. Teaming up with WHA Architects, Fuscoe Engineering, Candela Electrical Engineers, Brightview Construction, Buccola Landscape and W.E O’Neill these amenities allow for its residents to truly experience life and discover all the amenities have to offer. The Backyard includes:
- .5 miles of linear open space
- Gathering pods
- Unique picnic and seating areas nestled amongst indigenous rock formations
- Fire pit with hanging chairs
- Zip line
- Large tot lot, hill play and grass sliding

The Garage includes:
